160th Annual Show

It was great to see so many people at the Fete and in the Horticultural Show marquee for our 160th Annual Show on such a sunny late summer afternoon.  We were delighted that nearly twice as many people entered this year compared to last year, which meant that there were nearly twice as many entries.

Approximately half of the entries were in the vegetable, fruit and flower classes, and half were in the craft, produce and cookery classes, including 21 Victoria Sponges competing for the Mary McGlew Cup!  It was very pleasing that the standard of the entries was so high, and every available table was needed to display them.

The Horticultural Society Committee are very grateful to the Fete Committee for covering the cost of the marquee this year, as it has enabled us to achieve a modest but significant surplus by selling plants and produce provided by members.  We also very much appreciate the widespread support for the Annual Show within and beyond the parish and hope there will be even more entries next year.
