Hartfield & District Horticultural Society Annual Show

It was great to see so many people at the fete and in the Horticultural Show marquee for the first time in three years on such a glorious late summer day.  As expected, entries were down owing to the hot and dry weather this summer but it was very pleasing that about half of the entries were from people who didn’t enter the show in 2019 and we hope that many of those will enter again next year.

There were entries in all the classes and the judges were very complimentary about the standard of the entries which was pleasing.  One of the highlights was the impressive display of fruit and vegetables grown by the residents of Aspens care home in Pembury and we’re planning to encourage charities that use gardening for therapy to enter future shows.

We sold plenty of plants and produce which helped to offset the cost of the marquee and other expenses associated with putting on the show and we were also delighted to sign up four new members during the show.

Our next event will be a Quiz and Social Evening at 7.30pm on Friday 14th October at the Pavilion which will be open to members, guests and anyone who is interested in gardening.
